A hero to Western Civ. . .helped inspire a form of government that aspired to be something more than a theological platform (something lost on a few Americans today). . .an important enlightenment thinker whose impact should not be underestimated.

Talented writer, revolutionary, made a remarkable jump from failure and obscurity, freethinker, rather original philosopher and gets about a star and a half for the funny disparaging comment about William the Conqueror alone. Died a pauper, but left a lasting imprint on history and society, one of the more remarkable men of his era.
