 | Gentle Jude (23) 08/26/2005 | This is something we really need to consider because we can't relie on oil and coal forever. In fact, we are already in short supply and it is only a matter of time when we will not have these. At the moment, alternate energy sources are in their early stages of development, but some groups are trying. So far, they are not very good eg solar batteries take hours to recharge, electrical cars don't go as fast and take hours to recharge. The only successful ones are hydro electrics and wind power. Even then, this all depends on what location you are in. If the government took this crisis more seriously, maybe we would have better sources. But as long as there isn't much funding for this, we will find it hard to find alternate sources. But the best thing we can do now is to try and save what we have by not using what we don't need.

 | AndrewScott (71) 08/11/2005 | Various alternative energy sources have been hyped since energy crisis in the 1970's, but much of these technological promises have failed to materialize. As most of us have figured out, it's not just about the environment anymore. We've been sending trillions of dollars overseas, with a good bit of it funneling down to groups that terrorize various peoples. Our oil dependence has only increased across decades, making me wonder how much powerful oil lobbies are to blame for why we don't have more in the way of alternative technology yet. Being more self-reliant will happen someday, but it won't come very quickly, especially if the public doesn't insist upon it.
