What I see over the past 10-15 years is more like liberals refusing to let the church run anything, particularly anything political. Are you sure that no government meeting should be started with a prayer? Is that really a violation of the US Cosntitution? Congress does it, by the way. As does the Supreme Court.
Most Americans find some place for religion in their lives. It is rare in my experience to see churches running peoples' lives. Becoming a liberal is seldom the solution for them.
