Today is December 6. On this date in history, in 1921, we witness the signing of the Anglo-Irish Treaty. This ended British Occupation of the 26 counties of Southern Ireland that had begun in the 11th Century. Michael Collins was the moving force on the Irish side. The movie does a passable job on this complex issue and the ensuing conflict between Collins and De Valera. Read all about it at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anglo-Irish_Treaty http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irish_Free_State I recently finished Tim Pat Coogan's two books, "Michael Collins" and "Eamon De Valera," and I recommend them highly.

One of those movies that few people saw- but those who saw it remember it. Good (but not great) movie about IRA struggles against those Limey Brits. . .Liam Neisson (sp) does a good job of being the charismatic leader, but Julia Roberts drags down the film with her obligatory-Hollywood-big-name presence.
