Really? They send useful statements.Hey stooge, big brother called, he says, "Don't be paranoid, I really don't use your credit and debit cards to follow your paper trail or audit your taxes."How about: USE CASH & KEEP RECEIPTS!Goes double for "automatic debits." Please don't drink the koolaid.

This is just a basic, common-sense procedure. I usually check to make doubly sure that any credits that should have been allowed actually have been posted.

This is a given. I never pay any bill unless I know what the charge is for.

yes good thing to do. I wish i never had to use these rotten things. thanks to a low budget, and having to use it in emergencies we do use them. I try and check every month if anything looks fishy or more than it should.just this past week I noticed a mistake on our card. we had rented a UHAUL. and was charged for the one time we used it. but someone there made a typo and scheduled us for a second time we did not order so we were charged again for a rental we did not even make.thankfully when we took the statement to them they took it off. so next time we get a statement it should be off. I try not to carry them with me to a store. have heard too many horror stories.

Good thing to do, even without the threat of identity theft. Items can be mischarged to your account very easily. When paying my husband's credit card bill online, I noticed a $300 charge that I didn't recognize. After I got him to finally call the company, it turns out it was a medical company . . . from another state. Thankfully, it was cleared up very quickly.

An early warning flag if someone is using your credit card number. Most credit card companies will cover the charges over $50 if you file a complaint.
