The only time I take my checkbook with me is if I have a bank transaction to make. Other than that, it stays at home. As far as the Social Security card goes, I know that there are some employment agencies that ask you for it. So in that case, you have to carry it at least for the time. Credit cards are another issue. You can't very well make a purchase with them if you leave them at home. Although I haven't made a purchase on my credit cards in a long time, mainly because the way the economy is it wouldn't be too smart to put anything on them at this particular time.My personal identification is as secure with me as they are at my home locked up anywhere. I am very, very careful with my personal information.

Well, I haven't had need to write a check outside the home for years and years. And I don't have a social security card (it's gone missing 40 years ago). But credit cards are essential; leaving them at home negates their value and leaves you open to cash robbery. Plus, credit cards have a $50 max liability if stolen. And I do not believe identity can be assumed from them, just money.

Guilty on all three charges. I'm just asking for it, aren't I?

Unless there is a specific need to have them with you, keep them locked up at home. And hidden.
