ItemImageOriginally a product of Britain's new romantic movement, Depeche Mode went on to become the quintessential electro-pop band of the 1980s; one of the first acts to establish a musical identity based completely around the use of synthesizers, the group began their existence as a bouncy dance-pop outfit but gradually developed a darker, more dramatic sound which ultimately positioned them as one of the most successful alternative bands of their era.... A few decent songs, but most are too brooding and sound alike.

Not my cup of tea,but I've heard quite a bit of their stuff as a buddy of mine was crazy about them. They made some interesting, atmospheric electronic music-some of which was at that time considered "Club Music".I liked some of the sardonic lyrics, and some of it had a great beat, too.

Why don't they become pitchmen for antidepressants? I can just see them looking glum and singing their dreary ballads, then in the next shot show them skipping and performing "Singin' in the Rain" after taking Zoloft for 30 days.

Come on, does nobody here like Depeche Mode or what? They were a terrific rock band, they have very deep lyrics and the music is so haunting and dark at times it's sheer brillance. Their songs seem to stick in one's mind. Only a few bands can do that to me. Plus, Dave Gahan has a very unique voice and Martin Lee Gore was a good singer too. Very talented band, should not be overlooked to be put in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!
