Is this the breakout team of the season? They beat the Panthers, who walloped the Patriots today. Are they better than I think they are, or was last week some sort of "miracle" game? More to come...

Um...no. I would love to see it. Anybody that has the tendency to root for the underdog has wanted to see things like the Saints win the Superbowl, the Cubs win the World Series, and Phil Mickelson win a major. Well, one down, and a loooong road for the other two.

The Saints will never be anything but a bubble team in the NFL. Each year they seem to finish between 7-9 and 9-7. Always a contender. Sometimes making the playoffs. However, they are never a threat to go deep into the playoffs, and this year will be nothing but the same.

As stated in a previous post, my team will not make the playoffs this year (the Packers will sneak past them and possibly challenge for a divisional championship berth). It's a more wide-open field this year (what with the flurry of personnel changes, injury comebacks and setbacks, etc.), but keep an eye on the Carolina Panthers. They've got a middleweight schedule that tests them without breaking them, and they were very quiet in the offseason. No one expects much from them, which means they have little to lose. Their AFC counterparts, the New York Jets, could make for an interesting showdown in this year's Big Game.

This selection is being made as a matter of tradition and loyalty. Much in the same way as Cubs fans wake up each morning, brush their teeth and trot off to work secure with the delusion that their team will win a World Series sometime before Dennis Kucinich is elected president.

I think this team will click and figure out to go 10-6 and lose in the divisional, but this team will make the playoffs by just missing them two years in a roll because doug brien missed that kick and send the rams into the playoffs instead of the saints......grumble.....grumble
