The Falcons have definite playoff potential, but the key question is, will they choke once again like they did last year in the 1st round? My bet is that they will. This team has a relatively young and average defense. Many seem to worship at the altar of QB Michael Vick, but unlike many sports writers, I don't see him as the real thing. True, he's quick on his feet, but get him to pass the ball and he chokes. His overall ratings are actually lower than average. A team who uses the right schemes can shut down Vick's game in no time flat. They do have a winning record, but only one or two victories have come easy for them. This is a good team, but I don't think they have enough to go all the way. As for the much hailed Vick, he really benefits more from having a solid offensive line backing him rather than his own passing game, which is very mediocre. He can run the ball, but a QB in my view has to be more multifaceted.

Not unless Ron Mexico (Vick) learns how to play Quarterback instead of whatever mutant position he is playing. UPDATE: It is killing me how they beat the Eagles by a whopping 14-10 and now sportswriters are all over Vick's diseased junk. He barely topped 50% completion and was bailed out by bad coverage on at least one big play. Take away his running and put a halfway decent backup in the mix and he would be out of a job. UPDATE: Teams can and have taken the running away and what happens? Vick becomes a chucklehead, making bad reads, getting sacked, and fumbling because he carries the ball like a sack of bread all the time. Any dicsiplined team that uses the right schemes can blow Vick up, and will do so come playoff time. The Falcons had to resort to a low grade cheap shot to get Trotter thrown out so Vick wouldn't have to deal with Trotter blowing the run to hell, and the Falcons still barely won. UPDATE: numbah yawns as the boring Falcons lose. UPDATE: The backup looked good. Is Vick in trouble?

I don't think they have what it takes yet. Vick is still a couple of years away from being a championship caliber QB.

The Falcons have a a great defense and an explosive offense, and should be one of the top contenders for the Super Bowl coming out of the NFC. If Vick stays healthy, he will be able to make plays against anybody, and Duckett and Dunn provide a great 1-2 punch in the running game. If Jim Mora Jr. can take the Falcons from 5-11 to 11-5 in his first season, imagine what he will do in his second. NUMBAH16 - You say that Vick without his legs would just be another backup in the league. TRUE, but the legs are still allowed to get first downs and score TDs. Without his legs he is an average QB, but with his legs he is one of the best in the League. The Falcons defense is for real too.

numbah_16_td_haha what the hell r u talkin about? Mike Vick needs to do what he does best and that is scramble out of the pocket and look for open wide-out and the probowl tight-end alge crupler. If their covered, then make plays with his legs. I didnt see mcnabb do any thing special. Atlanta won the game, not because of offense, but their defense!

If Vick has a consistent year, they will get to the playoffs. But after that...........they will fall like last year.

THIS COULD BE THE YEAR... the Falcons lose another Super Bowl. Michael Vick is a good QB, and a great running back. When the Falcons can put together a more consistent passing game, maybe they will go all the way.

absolutely no way. yes they made it to the championship, but vick just scrambles to much. he needs to learn the pass plays then u might say superbowl. plus the rams got lucky to play atl because the seahawks should have played and headed off to the nfc championship game
