They threaten outright violence against the West, and are without a doubt the most serious threat facing the United States.

You might be hesitant to consider it a big threat if you live in USA before 9-11. There no cover left for Americans to hide from the reality. War is in your territory now. Oh, well, Ney York and Washington are far away. How cares?

My friend's girlfriend, 19 y.o., the nicest girl, was injured by the terrorist act. Not killed, did not get to the fatal numbers. She will be forever (FOREVER) in the wheelchair, the only working part of her left - her brain, which makes it even more painfull. I do not wish even to my worst enemies to get this substantial proof, that the terrorists are the biggest problem in the mordern world. It does not matter, if you are muslim or not. In Iraq, mots of the fatalities are the completely innocent bystanders. NOBODY safe. You also, in your nice house, your wonderful car. And, the most important: you loved, your children are not safe. It is your war, too, now, even you do not want to fight...

Perhaps when the Bush administration is history, America can begin to deal with the threat of Islamist Fundamentalism?

I can't believe some people here want to lump all religious fundamentalists into this category. Be as "tolerant" as you want, Muslim radicals are murdering, kidnapping, and terrorizing people all over the globe. When was the last time the Amish attacked anyone? Does it get any more "fundamentalist" than the Amish? Quakers maybe? Yeah...those Quakers are a real danger.

They have been responsible for the deaths of thousands of Americans on 9/11, in Afghanistan, and Iraq. Subsequently they have also helped spread anti-americanism throughout the rest of the world. I would say they are very dangerous to America.

They take advantage of the conflict between Israelies and the Palestinians to give a faulty and bad image of Islam. They are very dangerous because they give a false image of the real Islam to the Western world and especialy to the United States of America. It's important not to trust and believe them.In fact Islamic Fundamentalism and fundamentalism in general is prohibited in Holy Koran.Allah (God) say in Koran to be very moderate in term of religion. So we can consider Islamic fundamentalists are not Muslims because they don't practice the religion like God wants.Fortunately ,a great majority (about 95 percent) of Muslims are moderate and just want to practice with freedom their religion and live in peace with the entire world and Israel also.

There ability to create a frightened and hysterical populace and thereby force them to make irrational decisions that affect their day-to-day lives is greater than the actual violence they can cause. At least this is the case in the United States. And for this reason they are dangerous.

Christians try to convert people to their religion. Muslims realize that everyone already is a Muslim, those that "aren't" simply don't realize that they are yet. An enlightened statement. They would make dangerous enemies.

The worst crime ever committed against a single country was perpatrated be these pigs and for some reason at this time they are not at the top of the list. If you really think any thing is more dangerous to America then these poor excuses for vermin, you really need to look very closely are your belief system, or you lack of one.

Public enemy #1. UPDATE: I was reading other comments on this list and am suddenly curious to know how many New Yorkers were killed by lightning in 2001. I'm also curious to know how many people serving on the USS Cole have been hit by lightning and exactly how many tourists have been hit by lightning while in a nighclub. Before I forget, how many international relief workers and missionaries have been beheaded by lightning? NUMBAH DOES HIS HOMEWORK: Over a 15 year span (1980-95), 1318 Americans were reported as killed by lightning. Thats about 1700 less than we lost to terrorism in one day. I await your response, spartacus. UPDATE: You used an estimate from an organization that everone is calling a pack of morons. Credible, for sure. If you wanna crunch numbers, since the year 1995, the year my data expired, more Americans have been killed by terrorism than lightning. Response? BEFORE I FORGET: You are only counting one organization and probaly only 9-11, and I guess us poor military folk don't count. What about my Marines, my brothers, who got killed in Lebanon? What about the attack on Airmen in Saudi Arabia? Did you include those in your expert numbers? UPDATE: Panic? Nah. Wanting to kill the little fools before they get us (and we all know they want to) is what I'm about. Its called vigilance. Lack of it duing the 90's made 9-11 possible. We sat back with our satellites, thinking we were safe, and completely ignored the gaps in human intel. We had zero operatives working any terror cells and didn't act on any intercepts that we did make with the exception of sackless Bill throwing a few nice, sanitary cruise missles at some terror camp to try to convince us that he gave a rats ass, when what he should have done was send in Special Forces teams to do it right. But I guess the ghosts of Somalia were too much for a spineless draft-dodger, so instead we all got treated to the horror of horrors that we COULD HAVE and SHOULD HAVE prevented.

NOT AT ALL .. BUT however if we are talking about OSAMA and his organization then i would say yes they are ... we can't relate the attacks to the over all Muslims around .. and for your iformation there are such organizations in Muslim countries e.g. Egypt who forces youth and other to follow them in doing attacks and stuff ...

The average American is more likely to be killed by lightning than by Al-Qaeda. RESPONSE TO ANGRY NUMBAH: A military officer in the Middle East isn't an 'average American.' Al-Qaeda attacked America once. Lightning attacks America constantly. FEMA estimates that 200 Americans die from being struck by lightning or by accidents caused by lightning (a falling tree, for example) every year. Your 1,380 number comes from adding avaliable hopsital-only reports of lightning strikes-only added together in 1995. An average of 119.4 Americans a year have been killed by an Al-Qaeda attack since 1980. And this is all assuming rates and odds are the same thing. Here is some more reading on the subject. http://www.strikealert.com/LightningFacts.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/9/11 http://www.businessweek.com/bwdaily/dnflash/jan2003/nf20030116_9096.htm http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/liveonline/03/special/world/sp_world_siegel021303.htm http://www.anxietyandstress.com/sys-tmpl/terrorismandyouwhataretheodds/ http://www.davidmyers.org/Brix?pageID=65 http://themetropolistimes.blogspirit.com/archive/2005/07/06/government-mothers-and-peanuts-more-dangerous-than-drugs-and.html NUMBAH: Look, I didn't realize your friends had been killed, I would have been more sensitive. Terrorism is a threat, but its not a cause for national panic. Even if lightning isn't the best example, the point is that when you list all the threats to American lives, terrorism is way down on the list. Visit a childrens' hospital in an American suburb and ask how many of the patients are there because of terrorism, and how many are there because of inner-city gangs, because of diabetes, abuse, drunk drivers or just plain accidents. Terrorists are uniquely evil, and their morbid executions rightly shock and horrify us, but being afraid of them is what they want - that's why they're called terrorists.

Here is my solution and I cite the example of John J. Pershing. Pershing was the military governor of the Moro area in the Philippines before WWI. There was a continuous Moslem insurrection and extremist uprising with constant acts of terrorism by holy warriors. Pershing's troops captured fifty of them and tied them to a stake. Then he had his men butcher hogs in front of the terrified extremists. The Moslems believe that being defiled by swine prevents the good Moslem from entering paradise and all those waiting virgins. Pershing had his men soak their ammo in the pig blood, execute 49 of the extremists, bury them in a mass grave, pour the hog offal over the bodies and he let the last terrorist go. For the next 50 years there were no extremist acts by the peaceful followers of Mohammed.

Islamic fundamentalists currently are the paramount danger not only to the US, but to Europe and Western civilization as we know it. They are dangerous not only in in terms of terror attacks, but threaten international stability because of their jihadist philosophy. It's be one thing if they had some knind of enlightened agenda, but their aim is to impose radical Islam on anyone and everyone they can gain ascendancy over.

Obviously dangerous to America (and anyone else they decide not to like). Their view of the world is incompatible w/ the realities of the 21st Century. They are stuck in the middle ages. The problem is, the world (internet, satellite television, inexpensive travel, cellular phones, etc) has become too small for them to remain a secluded oddity anymore. Especially in view of the fact that they are sitting on a natural resource that the Western (and now China, also) world desperately needs.
