Music to me has never been about being macho and badass. It is a pretty stirring number but it's not my style.

Nobody kicked more ass than Rage. Shh shhh shhh, but but but but...........SHUT UP, I SAID NOBODY! Period, end of story. Audioslave my ass. This song launched the badassness for east coast kids. And I don't care what anybody says, Stones Led Zepp Beatles, I don't care...........Rage is the most badass thing EVER in general to see live. Not just best band to see live - BEST THING ever to see live. I remember August 97' in Charlotte with Wu-Tang opening up. OH MY GOD! It gives me chills. It was outside at the Blockbuster Pavillion, now called Verizon Wireless. People were passing out from heat exhaustion, and you had to body surf their limp bodies to get them to paramedics. Once night fell, Tom was rocking with the light behind him, casting his giant shadow across the whole crowd. YES! YES! They had to stop the show for like 45 minutes, because people were ligting American flags and tossing them over heads like a hot potatoe. People talk about shows they went to, and how stoned everybody got. Well, at Rage shows, you didn't have time to get blazed. Constant rocking, chaos. No talking. No how ya'll feeling tonight? One song ends, BANG, right into another. And they did like 5 encores! The last being Zach and Method Man just ripping the mic over a rap beat, on a song I have never heard since then. God, Rage was bad ass. Their breakup is an American tragedy in my opinion. I hope my kids get it. And oh yeah, 'Freedom' kicks more ass than Ali in his prime.

Every song on that album was killer, but Freedom stood out with purpose and that seething sense of outrage. Worked any way you liked (driving jaunts, political screed, bang and mosh, etc.), and could definitely be appreciated by any type of music lover (I've seen hardcore Carpenters fans tapping their toes when it comes on). Morello gets the gnarliest of tones out of a guitar, and Zach's vocals are like bungee cords (allowing him to plummet head-first into the chasms of chaos and bounce back for another go-round when it suits him). My Mom BEGS me to turn it off half-way through (the true sign of a great song). Can't be played loud enough!
