 | EschewObfuscation (61) 12/01/2005 | Ran for Vice-President, unsuccessfully. Ran for President, humiliatingly losing to the morally bereft Bill Clinton representing, in my opinion, the absolute low-ebb of the republican party. Clinton was running for re-election on almost the same economic performance numbers on which GWB just ran in 2004, but had fumbled away everything for the democrat party by 1996 and should have been a one-term president, like Jimmy Carter. And don't think us Hillary-dislikers have forgotten how stupid the republican party can be, at times.
Nominating Dole was tantamount to "handing" a second term to Bill Clinton. His campaign was notable in its ineptness, featuring Dole falling off a temporary stage at a campaign stop and referring (on mic!)to the Brooklyn Dodgers, who had left Brooklyn in 1956, FORTY YEARS AGO! Viagra knew a credible spokesman when they saw it. He was unelectable in 1976 (nationally) and he remained so in 1996. The party somehow "owed" him the chance to run for President, and he completely shamed them for such arrogance. Clinton so easily "won" their debates that they hardly even got nasty. Pathetic.
Before I started this rant, I had given him a two. Now, it's a one.
