To me, a well above average picture, but I enjoy WWII movies. Based on a true story and well done. How accurate? I'd like to know, but it was well done to me. I doubt if it is all that correct, but again, still good entertainment.

Pretty good war movie. Yeah, it's full of all the standard cliches and typical, tactcal gaffes but hey, it's Hollywood. Based on the reviews I expecte the love story to drop the bomb on this movie, a-la Pearl Harbor but I didn't find it getting in the way . . . too much. Again, based on reviews I expected seriously flawed character development, but I was surprised to find that I actually did connect with the main characters. It wasn't a CGI special effects, gore-fest either, which was refreshing. As someone who is a stickler for realism in uniforms, gear, grit and grime, I couldn't find any fatal flaws. It looked period. GI's looked GI. Finally, most importantly, it's a great story of great people doing great things. I recommend the movie and the many books on which it was based.

Good movie that is a real tribute to the Japanese POWs of WWII, the Rangers who recsued them and the Filipino people who fought against the Japanese. This movie was a real eye-opener fo rme. WWII seemed ot be remembered more for the War in Europe than what happened in the East vs the Japanese IMHO. This movie revealed some things about the War in the Pacific that even i wasnt quite aware of , starting with a historical narrative of the war and what happened in the Phillipines after Pearl Harbor. The movie moves along at a good pace with the inevtiable rescue. Before that, though, we really get a look atthe Japanese-occupied Phillipines and their treatment of American POWs. It's not pretty, but I'm glad the story was told and referenced with real footage, of the people who actually made history.
