This district is strongly Democratic and 58% Hispanic. Democrat Edward L. Pastor first won a special election in 1991 to replace Morris Udall and has won easily since. His last election was 70% of the vote.
Kerry won 62% of the vote in this district in 2004.
Pastor was born in 1943 and is a Catholic.
