This is a carefully gerrymandered district to throw as much Democratic territory as possible together in the Central Valley. George W. Bush polled 50% of the vote in this district in 2004, and the district is marginal.

This is the old Gary Condit district, and Democrat Dennis Cardoza defeated Condit in the Democratic Primary. Cardoza's  first race was close, but the next two races were easy.

Cardoza was born in 1959 and is Catholic.
