Hawaii 2--Mazie Hirono (D) 3

UPDATED OCTOBER 21, 2008.  This district is the entire state of Hawaii except for Pearl Harbor and downtown Honolulu.  Democratic incumbent Mazie Hirono will have no problems in 2008

UPDATED AFTER 2006 ELECTION: Ed Case (D), the incumbent, ran for another office and Mazie Hirono (D) won the seat with 61% of the vote. She was born in Japan in 1947. She is a Jodo Shu Buddhist and she and Georgia's newly elected Hank Johnson are the first Buddhists ever elected to the House of Representatives.

ORIGINAL COMMENT: John Kerry received 56% of the vote in this district in 2004. Incumbent Ed Case's election to this district is complicated. The incumbent representative died before the 2002 election, but was elected posthumously. The Governor of Hawaii called a special election to fill the rest of the term expiring January 3, 2003, and then a special election for the term expiring Jan. 3, 2005. Ed Case (D) was a suprise winner for the short 2003 term with 51% of the vote, and than in a field of 44 candidates won the 2005 part of the term with 44% of the vote. He was re-elected in 2004 with 63% of the vote. He was born in 1952 and is a Protestant.
