This district was first drawn for the Democrats but that party has never won that many races for this seat. Bush won 61% of the vote in 2004. Incumbent Republican Cliff Stearns first won the seat in 1988 with 54% of the vote and has never been seriously challenged since. He was born in 1941 and is Presbyterian. This district is in central Florida and starts near Jacksonville, skirts Gainesville and ends north of Orlando.
