UPDATED AFTER 2006 ELECTION:
Keith Maurice Ellison (D) won this seat after long time Democrat
Martin Sabo retired.
Ellion was born in 1963 and his religion is Sunni Islam. He is the first Moslem ever elected to Congress.
UPDATE: April, 2006. Sabo announced in March that he is not seeking another term. This is the strongest Democratic district in Minnesota and should easily elect another Democrat. This district is primarily the City of Minneapolis and the close in suburbs.
Kerry won 71% of the vote in this staunch DFL district.
Incumbent Martin O. Sabo (D) won his first term in 1978 and has never polled less than 60% of the vote in this increasingly funky district.
He was born in 1938 and is Lutheran.
