They are still counting votes in her district. Mean Jean may yet loose her seat. My fingers are crossed.

It's not every freshmen State Representative who manages to get lampooned on Saturday Night Live shortly after taking office, yet Jean Schmidt managed that. She drew much negative media attention after an ill-advised slam against veteran military leader and State Representative John Murtha in front of Congress. He had turned against the Iraq war, and she told him "cowards cut and run". This comment showed little appreciation for Murtha's long, decorated record of military service and drew immediate loud boos and howls from senior Democrats. Jean Schmidt narrowly won the open Ohio seat against charasmatic Gulf War veteran Paul Hackett in a heavily Republican section of the state. But with the embarrassing first impression she made, she already has her work cut out for her in regaining local support.

This is a heavily GOP district anchored by the affluent eastern part of the Cincinnati area. Bush won 64% of the vote in this district in 2004. Jean Schmidt was elected in a squeaker of a special election in August, 2005, to fill a vacancy. Democrats and many independence observors predict a GOP disaster in Ohio in the 2006 elections, and that this special election is a portent of the upcoming Democratic tsunami. She was born in 1951 and is Catholic.

Republican b*tch who slandered Murtha. She needs to be removed!

This woman seems to be, to put it charitably, not the brightest tool in the shed. After barely winning a district that has been strongly Republican for years, she seems to be the type that's simply over her head. Her comments regarding Murtha, regardless of one's own position regarding the issue, were to put it bluntly, at best, ill- advised and not particularly tactful. She seems very brash, rude, mean spirited, and one also gets the impression that she's way over her head and has a marginal understanding of the issues we face. Depending on one's personal views, she is either a steadfast ally of Bush or just a parrot of the Republican ethos spewing out cliches and propaganda. I favor the latter view. I get the feeling one could be looking at one term and out for her.
