How you present yourself to people is a huge factor in how people will treat you. If you take the time to make yourself approachable, then it can pay off. Saying "Hi" to somebody you are interested in meeting, or to anyone really....is a step in the right direction.

Pretty important and you will be amazed sometimes with the response!

I wish it could be a nicer world more friendly like when I can say Hi to someone. I will still say hi on occasion. sad thing is there are those out there who would rather glare than make any kind of contact. if someone say hi to me i will always say hi back. i am getting more careful. it is not that i want to be unfriendly but why should I say hi just so someone can have the pleasure of just ignoring that hi.and i have had people do this. too bad this world has become that unfriendly.

You know what, this matters more than you think. There are some places in America, if not maybe the world, where people will not say hi to acquaintances of theirs. Usually, good manners aren't anywhere to be found too. Now if you are good friends with someone, it's different, but usually, they're the ones that aren't aholes. When I went to college at UMich in Ann Arbor, that whole town was just mean, cold and oppressive because people would never say hi to you. You walk out of your apartment, walk around town, walk past tons of people you know that won't say hi, then go home. Do you have any idea how weird that is? It lowers the temperature of any given locale about 30 degrees when people do that. At first, when I went there, saying hi to people was a given, even if you didn't like them, at least in the many places I've lived! But after the first 10 people in that college town that wouldn't say hi, I just quit. I just started making eye contact, and if it wasn't reciprocated, I walked by. I have made a resolution that if I ever move to a town where people don't have manners and can't say hi, that I will get out ASAP. It's the worst feeling in the world.
