 | EschewObfuscation (71) 08/16/2005 | The best ones wriggle, just a little bit, on the way down. UPDATE: I'm sorry, heykate, it just had to be said. The funniest thing about oysters, raw clams and other such delicacies is watching an unsuspecting (usually young) person try them for the first time. They hear everyone around (all lovers of such things) rave about how good they taste, and decide why not? They don't always swim upstream but it's always a good laugh when they just can't keep them going down. 2nd UPDATE: In Myrtle Beach, a year or so ago, my eldest daughter, who will try anything, ordered a seafood platter at a seafood restaurant. She downed the shrimp, scallops, mussels, catfish, slurped down the oysters . . . but there it sat, a raw clam, and a big one. Very intimidating. She picked it up several times, determined that she would master it, only to then quietly set it back down. I thought I would fall off my chair when my wife said, why don't you cut it in half?

 | Sundiszno (32) 08/14/2005 | Clams, oysters, snails, caviar - all of those seafoody things I really hate. Why eat anything slimy or really fishy tasting? Not for me.

 | CastleBee (85) 08/14/2005 | Definately one of those things you either love or hate. Personally, I LOVE the slimy little things and any way you want to cook them - or not cook them. Fried is great and I've loved the taste of oyster stew since I was a really little kid. But I also love them on the half shell or on soda crackers with a little lemon juice and/or hot sauce. I can't explain it - I just go with it when the occasion presents itself (usually around the holidays when they're around because of oyster dressing.)

 | texasyankee (22) 08/14/2005 | I like them with hot sauce, and raw. They're an aphrodiziac if you do it right;)
EDIT: Randyman. You know that's a given with just about anything I eat! The only thing I can think of I wouldn't chase with a beer, is pancakes!~

 | Solenoid DH (20) 08/14/2005 | If you could have eaten some of the fantastic oyster soup my mother used to make, you would remove oysters from your can't eat list!

 | Randyman (109) 08/14/2005 | Ummmm, fried oyster po' boy. These are to die for. There used to be a little cajun/creole cafe in Pasadena, California. The owner/chef was from New Orleans, he was the real deal. His po' boys were out of this world!
O.C. Texasyankee, you took the words right out of my mouth! But you forgot to chase it down with a cold beer. ;-)

 | Graymalkin (52) 08/14/2005 | I apologize heykate for this, but they are good slurped right out of their shells with Tabasco sauce. I loved them fried too for a po'boy with Cajun remoulade. Hey, I am surrounded by oyster beds!

 | Inmyopinion (10) 08/13/2005 | Oh, don't even get me started with these things. I love clams, a trip to the lake is nothing without a decent calm bake, but oysters. NO WAY. And they are supposed to be an aphrodisiac? Sorry, but slurping down a cold, slimey, sandy, slug-like creature would definitely get me OUT of the mood.
