How stupid can someone be to make such insulting comments about others simply because he/she does not agree with them or believe in the same causes? This doesn't apply only to John Kerry's recent comments, but to all those who have the habit of mouthing off stereotypical comments and mindless insults regarding Republicans and their supposed lack of intelligence (as much as there is also no real justification in stereotyping the average Democratic follower). There is no justification for what the junior Senator from Massachusetts had to say, and it is just he had to apologize and be held accountable for his disingenuous comments as they were totally shameful.

 | abichara (63) 11/01/2006 | First off, I agree with Sharon that John Kerry's comments this past Monday claiming that you'll end up in Iraq if you don't get an education is somewhat off. Of course, he's ignoring a very basic fact here not supporting his premise: we don't have the draft anymore; therefore student deferments are a thing of the past!
Really, I tried to be fair and tried to understand Kerry's statement within the context of his entire speech, but I couldn't find any overriding justification for what he said. I think it was a "smash and grab" characterization of our troops who are serving in Iraq, many of whom Kerry implied are there simply because more competent people chose to stay away from the military. But let's also be realistic here, since army recruitment has gone down over the past few years, the criteria to serve has also gone down significantly. Nevertheless, I think its kind of tasteless to make such a broad characterization, especially when there are plenty of people in the service who are highly competent and well educated to boot. Kerry of course should know: he was one of them. Unfortunately for Kerry, he worked right into the Republicans hands.
The Democrats should be happy that Kerry isn't on the ballot this year. If he had said this one week before the election in 2004, with security being the overriding issue, the Republicans would have slaughtered him. Lucky for the Democrats, the political climate is different this year, and of course they should also be lucky that Kerry is not on the ballot! I don't think this will affect the outcome of the election that much, especially considering the anti-incumbent mood that exists out there. The election is the Democrats to lose.
I wouldn't say that the Republicans are intellectually depraved; rather I think they're suffering from the effects of being in power too long, and of having power concentrated in their hands. Every scandal, every policy gone bad in the eyes of the voters is on them; therefore they are the ones that will be held to account. Losing for the Republicans might be good for them in the long haul, as it might force them to re-examine some of the policies that they have espoused which have not worked. That's what happened to Bill Clinton in 1994 after the Republicans swept into Congress. The Republicans began to hold Clinton accountable and he was forced to move to the center to accommodate the Republicans, who essentially forced Clinton to "either fish or cut bait". Being critical, balancing power against the branches is what makes our government work well. Ironically, split party government might look more chaotic than one-party government, but it creates the tension between the Legislative and Executive Branches that the Founders desired within the government. At the end of the day, we achieve what the Founders most wanted: accountability.

 | SharonParry (46) 11/01/2006 | I watched the video and I think it was an aweful thing for Kerry to say. Although, not very political minded, I can't tolerate ignorant remarks like that one. I have two relatives fighting in Iraq right now, neither of which were drop outs and both who excelled in shool. My second to youngest nephew is in special forces, and, that being, AFTER he acqired his degree in computer programing! I doubt very highly, that the main motivation for enlisting has anything at all to do with not getting an adequate education! Incidentally... this remark is not based on ANY political agenda. It's based on the way I feel about respect for other's feelings. How ugly that comment sounded. Thank you for sharing that clip, KJLloyd.

 | Donovan (137) 11/01/2006 | The Republicans did not pick Gore and Kerry as candidates, so if Democrats want to throw stones then they should think before casting the first one.
Republicans Are Intellectually Depraved = a stupid and bias comment!

 | Mr.Political (20) 08/19/2005 | Actually CanadaSucks, you consistently imply the intellectual inferiority of Republicans- a belief held by many on the left since the election of President Bush (or Dubya as you like to call him). Portraying a point of view-that happens to be conservative- as something held by only someone who hasn't been to college or when a conservative happens to note the irony of so many leftists comparing Bush to a Nazi yet finding Che Guevara a great person, they must automatically be someone who hasn't spent enough time in college, it comes off as rather condescending. Though not nearly as much as when you call an opinion (held by many Republicans) as an action against people who ask the intelligent questions. Alas, the icing on the cake is when you call President Bush- one of the most noted conservative Republicans in our time- as Dubs and then procede to critize him for not being smart enough to take time out of your precious vacation to answer a woman's questions in private? Since she challenges your dumb ass and questions your lies... These are all in addition to your oh-so-clever observations of Republican perspectives as being aggressively stupid, held by snake handling, foot washing Christians, or people who are living life like veal.

 | CanadaSucks (50) 08/17/2005 | I didn't 'inspire' this or suggest this at all because I don't believe this. George Will isn't 'depraved'. W.F. Buckley isn't 'depraved'. Those who follow bald-faced lying presidents without questions, complaints, or issues are idiot-sheep and should be told so for their own good. There's a difference. Someone care to explain taking my quote out of context? Then again, enough of you do that with the bible. . .
