I don't think I could do this; they don't seem all that appetizing, and plus, they're kinda cute in their own little awkward way.

 | Sundiszno (30) 08/19/2005 | I suppose in a pinch I coujld eat one - roasted, in a stew, or whatever, but it'd have to be a helluva pinch. There are quite a few groundhogs around here in rural PA - in fact, shortly after we moved here, I began having a little trouble with one of my cars. Made arrangements to bring it to the local garage on a Monday. As it happened, it rained like hell on Sunday night. Anyway (I'll bet you're asking yourself what this has to do with groundhogs, huh?), I brought the car to the garage, and when the mechanic raised the hood, there sat a live groundhog on the firewall - he probably crawled up there to get out of the rain. Anyway, the groundhog recovered a bit more quickly than we did, and he jumped out of the engine compartment and ran a whole lot faster than I thought a groundhog could run.

 | irishgit (138) 08/17/2005 | UPDATE TO tboneya: Hell fire boy, you gotta watch out about tellin' folks you don't cotton to possum or coon. You're gonna get your official hillbilly badge revoked. LOL.
OM:
Figures that my favorite RIA country boy tboneya suggested this. LOL. And squirrel too I see. What, no possum or coon?
Seriously, I can't imagine how you cook the little buggers. Stewed I guess, but I imagine you need a dozen or so. Looks too much like a rat for my taste.

 | GenghisTheHun (168) 08/17/2005 | I have shot a few marmots, but I have never eaten them. My hunnic ancestors in Central Asia always avoided eating these large rodents that abound there. Do you know why, my friends? Because they can be carriers of the Black Plague. The plague kills humans but some experts contend that it is like a childhood disease to marmots, prairie dogs, etc. The plague is endemic to some prairie dog towns in New Mexico and maybe Devils' Tower.
