Harmful? Hardly.

I don't suggest that his conclusions are all correct, or that his research was without flaws, but that does not mean that it is harmful.

Despite the best efforts of those who like to rewrite history to fit their modern agenda, and peddle it as fact to the unaware, the unread or the willingly ignorant via dubious internet "news sources," Kinsey's work is no more harmful than any other biology or sociology text.

I'm so weary of people for whom any mention of sexuality is immediate cause for the vapors.

He really found himself in unchartered waters. This book was not harmful because it opened the doors to the study of human sexuality in a scientific/social light rather than behind closed doors and whispered voices. Some of his findings were erroneous(almost said erogenous!) but it set a baseline that future researchers could expound on. Studies along these lines are controversial but neccessary. If not who, when?

The book included reports of sexual activity involving girls younger than age 4, and suggested that sex between adults and children could be beneficial.I would call that harmful.Kinsey, being a zoologist, should have known that people and animals are different. From Human events.com

The research complied from his life-long studies might've seemed genuinely threatening to some in the 1950's, but in retrospect was hardly harmful to anyone. Nowadays, however, certain agenda-driven groups occassionaly attempt to pervert his findings so as to bolster or exaggerate their own causes. Not good, but this has far more to do with the activist themselves rather than Dr. Kinsey or his work. For more on him, check out the 2004 film Kinsey for a decent overview on his life/research.

Information and knowledge are never destructive. Only what we do with them.

I haven't read all of it. I find it rather overrated as a text because it wanted to be a scientific study and wound up being more of a sociological/psychological experiment. Important work, but more for it's 'awakening' and consciousness-raising than for 'facts' concerning sex. But 'harmful'? Get a grip and become a liiiiitle more comfortable with your body. . .

Harmful to what? Fragile egos? This was a scientific report on sexuality, fascinating and well researched. If you're squeamish about such matters-don't read it.

Some of his research is suspect and some of his conclusions are flawed.. but that doesn't make his Report harmful. He brought the awareness that all people are sexual beings to the fore and that's something that was needed in the very repressed 50s when people were afraid to face anything unmentionable head on. We wouldn't be openly - and refreshingly - discussing things like rape, domestic abuse, child molestation, gender roles, etc. etc. today if someone like Kinsey hadn't opened the door and made it okay to bring previously taboo subjects out into the open.
