The US operated just fine until 1913 without an IRS. We now have this Federal department for at least the following reasons: 1) Federal revenues are required to pay the interest on the debt that the Federal Reserve system creates when it prints money and "lends" it to the US Gov't. Prior to the creation of the FED, we did not have this situation or this problem. Get rid of the FED, go back to a Constitutional money system, and this entire problem disappears. 2) Taxes are a mechanism of social control, for Federal taxes throttle economic growth for whatever wage class the politicians choose. 3) Increased size of Federal government demand higher tax revenues than the Constitution originally intended. Eliminate the expectation for government control and oversight over much of our lives and these revenues are no longer necessary.

The IRS is a necessary evil. Without them the Govt would have little revenue.

Dump it? Nah. Streamline the tax code and dowsize the snot (stupid site rules) out of the number of idiots that are enforcing the volumes of tax codes we now have? Pure genius.
