It's hard to rate this item since it's premised on a fallacy. That is, that we have a two-party system. We don't. At least we're not supposed to. What we have is a multi-party system. Most people (I think) assume that we do indeed have a two-party system.. and therein lies the problem. The dominance of those two very powerful parties makes it difficult for different voices to be heard. I wish I knew how to fix the problem but I don't. Many people, like myself, find themselves in sympathy with policies on both ends of the spectrum but we can't buy what either one in selling in toto. To make a bad situation even worse, both of those dominant parties have swung toward their extremes and have left little room for people to occupy the middle ground.

Unless people are gonna kill each other over party affiliation I think we can leave it alone.

This topic seems to be tearing our country apart. When people vote they just check a box and don't even get to know a politician. By instead calling our system anAmerican system instead of dems or reps we would be forced to know who we are voting for and be more repsonsible and informed as voters. I know that there is an Independent party but so many partys just confuses most people. One party would solve many problems and not force people into following blindly. There are far too many topics to be one party or the other completely and I'm tired of being called a fence post sitter when all I'm doing is being true to myself.

We don't have a two party-system. We just have a nation full of idiots who feel a particular allegiance to one of two parties in much the same way as I prefer Coke to Pepsi. Except many of them have feelings of hate for the other brand of cola. But aside from rhetoric, their conduct is pretty much the same. Variety abounds on election days. I'm a registered Republican who hasn't voted for a Republican presidential candidate since '88. The fact that only two parties are serious contenders for any office in this country of importance only goes to fortify my argument for scaled/proportional voting. It is essential to minimize the input of the non-thinkers. Scaled/Proportional Voting is not a panacea, it is an improvement. The best argument against Democracy is a five minute conversation with an average voter. - Winston Churchill
