I don't think I own a single piece of wool clothing, but that's just because I find wool clothing to be too hot and too itchy. If you like wool, go ahead and wear it. It's a perfectly good source of warm clothing if it suits you.

If the sheep get chilly they can always put on a sweater made of their own wool.

I think wool production is pretty humane from what I've read. Continue on, New Zealanders and Falkland Islanders.
Wiseguy 11/22/2008
They don't seem to suffer any trauma from it, so I guess its all right.

Without human interference, sheep grow just enough wool to protect themselves from temperature extremes.

My grandfather raised sheep and I remember as a kid when the shearers came around. The sheep actually benefited since all the pests, and stickers, and filth and offal that are clinging to the wool after a long winter--off it comes!
The critters then can last the summer a lot better. I don't know how they could last in really hot weather! If you saw what was in wool before it was combed and washed and cleaned and re-washed, you'd never wear a sweater. (Ugh!)

I could live without jumpers/sweaters. . .
lmorovan 05/02/2008
No parties involved in shearing get hurt and all parties get benefited. Win-win situation.

To quote Eli Wallach in The Magnificent Seven slightly out of context: "If God didn't want them sheared, He wouldn't have made them sheep."

So long as you're aren't alergic. :)

I had a wool sweater, keeps you warm and is stylish, I love wool blankets too.

An actual thing people can do to animals without hurting them. Treat the sheep humanely and your ok in my book
renevelv 10/02/2006
Because taking off the wool of animals is very cruel and it is bad for us to unskin animals just to please ourselves. It is total selfishness
LastMessenger3 08/08/2006
This usage is quite useful because animal doesn't have to die to give wool.

When I lived where it got pretty cold and I was working in the elements I loved a good wool sweater, but now that I live in the south it doesn't get cold enough. A good sweatshirt will do.
Djahuti 06/24/2006
As long as the sheep are treated humanely, there's nothing wrong with shearing them.Wool is an excellent, long wearing, natural material and the sheep are not killed or harmed in its production.
LadyJesusFan77 7 06/23/2006
As I have heard others say, I also see nothing wrong with this. It does provide clothing for people, and the animals are unharmed.
PlanetaryGear 08/28/2005
The sheep get to live another day, and the humans seem to like it, so I see nothing to crow about over wool production, as long as it's done humanely and a soothing aftershave is used afterwards ...
kamylienne 08/27/2005
Seems the sheep actually benefit from this, anyway (even if they do look a little silly after the shearing process). Might as well. Fairly symbiotic relationship.
Randyman 08/27/2005
The sheep aren't hurt in the process, so there doesn't seem to be a downside to this.
TJGypsy2 08/26/2005
Helps us a great deal, doesn't hurt them (ideally) what's not to like? Although I do sometimes wonder....why don't sheep shrink when it rains?????
Mr.Political 08/25/2005
Practical and assuming it's done properly I don't see much reason to be against shearing and putting the excess wool to a positive use. I hear Bill Cosby's one of the wool industries biggest supporters...
Sundiszno 08/24/2005
Wool production would seem to benefit everyone - sheep ranchers, consumers, and the sheep as well. What could be better?
texasyankee 08/23/2005
Wool is one of the most durable fibers, and very versatile. Suits, sweaters, blankets, rugs, The best and the longest lasting stuff is made with wool. My friend once brought a wool dress back from Germany and the material was so soft and fine you would have never known it was wool.
CastleBee 08/23/2005
Actually, those fat little lambies may look kind of sad and scrawny once that fuzzy stuff is buzzed, but they also look cooler and kind of relieved. It's like some kind of miracle diet and instant heat relief rolled into one. And we goofy humans get to stay warm in our sweaters and stiff and professional looking in our gray suits. Everybody wins!
numbah16tdhaha 08/23/2005
I ain't goin' naked and the wool grows back.
