Although a lot of animal usage by the military has been replaced by motorized transportation, there are still some places a pack mule can go that a Jeep or Humvee can't.

Not as common now thanks to modern equipment, but still a good utility in certain theaters of war. The animals in the Marines all get rank like we humans do. I've met dogs that were Corporals and a mule that outranked me. Don't ask...

Animals should never be used in the military.

I dont really know how I feel about this one. They can give one side the upper hand, and can help save human lives. But, its not thier war they are fighting, and i'm not sure they understand the idea of warfare...

Jeez, I've heard people refer to Marines as animals, but I thought they were making a joke..... Just kidding, numbah...

Army mules should have went out with WW1, but maybe Michael Vick can be released from prison, covertly to train a top secret Black Ops covert squad of highly efficient, killer pit bulls that can go on secret missions biting terrorist nuts off....

People are the only creatures on earth screwy enough to try to wipe out their own kind. Why should an innocent animal - who only fights and kills for survival - be involved in this kind of thing? They don't deserve to be included in this kind of madness any more than children do.

A lot of good dogs have given their lives (like human counterparts) in duty and did so willingly.

I'm OK with the use of animals in the military.Hey,it's no worse than the use of humans! Also,I'm sure the animals that serve are treated as well as,if not better than the soldiers.

Dolphins and sea lions are very good at their jobs related to finding mines and protecting vessels.

Animals shall always have a place in the military. I suppose when we run out of oil, we shall have to revert to old dobbin.

Aminals have been used throughout history in the military and in wars. Horses , of course come to mind as cavalry and beast of burden. Elephants have been used like tanks in warfare. Birds have been used to pass messages between armies. Dogs have long been used as defenders , to intimidate or detect the enemy or their traps. The Romans were the first to use dead aminal carcasses as biological weapons on walled fortifications hoping the dead would spread disease. The Viet Cong used snakes in their tunnels to ward off US soldiers who ventured into them. Dolphins have been used by the Navy to carry sonar equipment.
