If you have friends on every network or messenger, Trillian is a good answer. Here you can talk to them all together. Have your AIM friends your YIM friends and others side by side with less memory issues, fewer open windows, and a faster way to deal with them. The free version doesn't have that many features, but having everything side by side can be a life saver.

My two best friends have trilian and they say that they have never ahd a problem with their comuter or system performences. They greatly appreciate this product because unlike anyhting else, it can communicate with AIM, Windows Messenger, and ICQ, plus many more. I am ready to download it myself!

This is by far the best IM, because you can have multiple IM's going on at once, like AIM, Yahoo, and MSN.
