Five double-taps to the back of the head. Boston neighborhood my ass! My hometown (now on occasion). Born and grew up here. Started drinking at thirteen during the I-93 construction and never looked back. Six pack of schlitz (talls).

On par with Charlestown, better than Cambridge (unless the motherfuckers keep climbing over the fence I've built), is Manchester by the Sea Compared to Chelsea.

Douchebag who called it "slummahville" probable lives in Lynn.

Pal Joey's(gone), Jumbo's(gone, reopened, no booze, worthless), Marshall Motors(gone), Broadway, Somerville Ave, Howey and Sal and Buddy(alive, gone, gone), mushing, stolen cars, crank, Broadway Theater(gone), Winter Hill Yacht Club(gone), Rosebud, Khoury's, Memory Lane(gone, torched), Ford Assembly plant(gone), First National wharehouse(gone), Trum Field, Foss Park, Dilboy Field, Walter, Ron and Al Perry, Merit Gas Station(gone, now Hess), The Penny Store(gone), Brick Bottom, Mystic Ave projects(former home), Davis Sq (blows), Union Sq(almost blows), Teelse Sq, Ball Sq, Ten Hills (ma's home), Tufts, Leone's, Powder House Sq(Nice), East Somerville(good drugs/gang central), Magoun Sq(Trum), Northeastern Junior High(gone), Somerville Junior High, St Polycarp's(gone), Lincoln Park, The Donut Shop(gone), Mama Lisa's, Ten Hill Cafe(gone), Armory, Prospect Hill(not Bad), Assembly Sq Mall(mediocre), The Paddock, Tech Tourney(gone and missed), Paul Sorrento, Somerville Boxing Club, Good Time Emporium(gone), Gilman Sq, Mt Vernon restaurant, McGrath Hwy, Steve's Ice Cream(gone), Sacco's, The Highland, Primo's Pizza(school chum), Conway Park, Claradon Hill projects, Glen Park, World Gym(gone), Gold's Gym.

Tough, low income blue collar denizens with a shitload of Brazilian immigrants, legal and illegal. Used to be and Irish-Italian enclave, now they're a minority or damn close. Is what it is and isn't ashamed of it.

The 'Slummerville' cliche is long outdated.  South of Highland Ave., Somerville is nearly as well-off as Cambridge.  The strip north of Broadway remains poor and dilapidated, and there is little green/open space.  Otherwise, Somerville is one of the nicest neighborhoods in Boston, with wonderful architecture (especially the churches), Davis Square, and an interesting mixed population of immigrants, working class, students and well-off gentrifiers.  Very convenient location to Cambridge/the City, and affordable housing (by Boston standards) as well.

Somerville is a very densely populated outskirting city of Boston that has basically absorbed overflow from Cambridge including the pricey cost of living. Most of the city feels blue collar although Davis Square has followed the trendy footsteps of Cambridge. Somerville is appealing if you enjoy city life but the high rent and real estate make it very overrated.

Unkind types call it "Slummerville," like Brookline or Cambridge, technically not part of the city, home to a diverse , gritty, mostly working class/ lower middle class population, though students and yuppies live there too.
