Allegiant Air

Traveling SGF to LAS on our return flight. I was in line with my family, including two very small children, at the SGF airport 35 minutes proir to flight. I understand COMPLETELY that they have a 45 minute policy. However, I had a 4 hour drive just to get to the airport, and I know for a fact that everyone who travels has been in this situation before. Terrible traffic, unfamiliar NEW airport and surroundings, but we were there at the gate 35 minutes prior. So, no matter what I had done, there were problems with the 4 hour drive to get there for the flight. We've ALL had those days!
Now, keep in mind that the "New" Springfield MO airport is SMALL, cracker box configuration. When you walk in, you can literally see the restroom location, the rental car counters, the ticket counter, the security gate, the departure gate and the plane you are going to board. All within 30-45 SECONDS slow pace walking distance. With only maybe 20 people in the entire visible area, including the count of my family of 5 and all airport personnel, I assumed we would have time to walk on the plane, even though we had such a terrible time getting there.
A representative from Allegiant approached me and asked if we were on the Las Vegas flight. I replied yes, and he told me, no, sorry you aren't! I asked why and he said it was too late and the flight was already gone! I knew it was not, I could SEE the plane, and asked why we could not board and his answer was there wasn't enough time! Again, remember, the size of the airport, and the fact that there was no one else even in the area to board ANY other flights at that time. Long story short, he refused to allow us to even attempt to make the flight, with 35 minutes before scheduled departure time! He did not offer to put us on another flight, even though their flights are 1 per day. He simply said NO.
Now, I have personally been in lines at the airport many times, and witnessed OTHER airlines coming through the line and asking if anyone is on a "close" flight. At that point they ESCORT the travelers and ASSIST in getting them on the plane. This I have witnessed in BUSY airports, and I know you all have also. They (the other airlines) seem to care about customer service. Allegiant is NOT customer driven or customer oriented. There was NO excuse for this. I can only assume this young man was "flexing his muscles" to show he was the BOSS, and capable of telling someone what to do. His standard answer was, well we have to have a cut-off SOMETIME! My answer to that was, yes, I understand you do, but when I can see the plane, the security agents are literally sitting there twiddling their thumbs with nothing to do, my family could walk over there, walk through the security line (as the ONLY ones there to do so), and then walk to the boarding gate, allin a matter of MAYBE 5 minutes maximum, we would STILL have 30 minutes to walk ON the plane! This was INSANE!
This action, and lack of compassion for their customers and passengers, caused me to have to obtain another rental car (as I had already turned mine in), a hotel for the night, place a call for a family member to drive 4 hours to come and get me and my family and take us back (another 4 hours) to Kansas City to take another flight the following day at a cost of $500 for new tickets.
I will never recommend this airline to anyone. If you get to the airport 2 hours prior, I imagine you might not have any problems and can take advantage of their cheap fares. Those of you who rave on about the cheap fares, I am right there with you. But these are only good when used in conjunction with a "perfect arrival at the airport", with none of the crazy things that can happen in a 4 hour commute to the airport in the first place, together with anything else the good Lord wants to dish out at the time! And heaven forbid you have any of those unforeseen problems just getting to the airport, because you will be treated like a second class citizen, even though you have 35 minutes to maneuver a 5 minute walk at the most, and board the plane with 30 minutes to spare!
I sent this same complaint to another site which Allegiant monitors. What do you want to wager, that they don't allow it to be printed?
