Named for 17th-century poet Joost van den Vondel, Vondelpark contains a monument for its namesake. Vondelpark was opened to the public in 1865, and the park has expanded to 45 hectares since its opening. The park features children’s areas with sandboxes and paddling pools, as well as an area for outdoor concerts and plays.
