When Amsterdam outlawed Roman Catholicism in 1578 in favor of Protestantism, hidden Catholic chapels were established in attics. The Museum Amstelkring is an example of an attic chapel of that era. “Ons' Lieve Heer op Solder” (“Our Lord in the Attic”) is preserved and has on display religious objects as well as an art collection.
