These are the bane of my existence. If I could take a steroid to heal these things, I would in a heartbeat. When I run hard, the next morning I have trouble walking down the stairs. I went to get my achilles checked out, and the doctor told me that while I don't need surgery, there are lots of little tears - due to a lot of mileage. The only thing that I found that helps is warm weather - they don't bother me in the summer - and Adidas pro model sneaks which have a soft elastic band over the achilles, as opposed to leather. That's it.
