Ursa Minor or Lesser Bear, is almost entirely composed of the asterism know as the Little Dipper. The most famous of stars in this constellation is Polaris or the North Star, so named because of it proximity to the North Pole, in fact if you were standing on the North Pole Polaris would be almost directly overhead. Polaris is at the end of the handle of the Little Dipper. For centuries sailors have used the star Polaris, visible in the Northern Hemisphere year-round to guide their seafaring voyages
