Not a bad QB---just not drafted into the right environment.

Ahh. . .draft day busts. . .Mirer was supposed to be a Notre Dame QB who would be a solid pro. . .but he was victimized by average teams and (perhaps) unrealistic expectations. . .not a serious bust, but worthy of mention. . .

How'd the scouts miss this turd?

He played in the league to long to be considered a complete bust...but he was bad! When in HELL did the bears give Seatle a first round pick for him? As far as trades go that would be a 5-star bust!

Definitely not all that he was supposed to be, but he did end up playing in the NFL for a decade, completed over 50% of his passes, and threw for over 11,000 yards. Mirer never lived up to his potential, but atleast he wasn't a guy who was out of the league in 3 years.

The Jets picked up Rick Mirer in 1999 when Testaverde went down in the first game and after watching him miss wide open receiver after wide open receiver I came to believe he had to be the worst number one draft pick in NFL history. Considering Ray Lucus- who couldn't lead the Rutgers Scarlet Knights to one victory- lead the Jets to 8 victories in 12 tries after replacing Mirer you start to come to grips with how bad Mirer was.

This is not so fair. This guy turned out to be a passable journeyman in the NFL. What he clearly wasn't was a #2 pick. But he was not an outright disaster ala Andre Ware/Heath Shuler.

I always kinda thought he was a waste of skin.
