Technically, a great player. What a pity then that jazz-rock is such a load of pretentious, self-important, joyless and boring ars*wipe. His contribution to this dire genre cannot be underestimated.

Now here is a guitarist who never sacrificed his musical integrity. Without even trying, he took jazz and rock music to a different sounding harmonic plane. Although he enjoys and listens to many of the greats i.e. Clapton, Metheny, Coltrane, Benson, Gambale, he has never aped anyone. Whether playing ultra fast leads or slower chordal interludes, Holdsworth exudes a uniqueness that comes into a player once in a great while. Some of the people he has played with include: Soft Machine, Tempest, Gong, Tony Williams Lifetime, Bruford, Jens Johannsen, and Derek Sherinian. His mark on playing the guitar will far outlast his lifetime. Try some of his music; you'll like it!
