This monastery lies to the west of Athens, on the Sacred Way to Eluesis. It was originally constructed on the ancient site of the sanctuary Apollo Daphnaios, which was mostly destroyed by Goth invasion late in the 4th century. The monastery has been rebuilt several times since it was first constructed in the 500s AD. It has used in various religious and secular capacities along the way. Mosaics dating from the 11th century adorn the interior, along with marble features.
