Grant, interpreting Adolphe Menjou's genial portrayal as the scheming and unscrupulous newspaper editor in the earlier version ('The Front Page', 1931), far outshines in humor and wit any other contenders (Walter Matthau, 'The Front Page', 1974 and Burt Reynolds, 'Switching Channels', 1988) - and convincingly matches any of his reporters' banter.
