Kirk Douglas' mordant representation of character as the journalist of this Billy Wilder drama was in turn bitterly repudiated by reviewers, which resulted in that the movie barely saw much release. Not all reporters would conduct themselves as unscrupulously as the protagonist but, within the confines of the narrative, the portrayal was searing. Much recommended when, if ever, restored.
