While his career path isn't one that generally makes you think of high intellegence, he did have the determination to pursue it. Early on, Presley made a lot of good decisions about his career, and proved himself to be very generous, as well as humble with his fame. In a time when it seems like all anyone has to do is get in line to get their 15 minutes of fame, it might be difficult to fathom just how famous Elvis Presley was at the height of his career. Unfortunately, the combination of monetary success and generosity makes it difficult to know who your friends are. Without trying to get to psychosomatic about it, I can imagine Presley felt alone no matter how many people he surrounded himself with, and eventually led him down a horrible road. I also think some people forget that he was one of twins, his brother dieing at birth. That does have some effect on people.

Yes, and he probably would have died a fat truck driver in 1977 had it not been for his sex appeal and ability to sing - and probably most important, excellent timing. But, you play the cards you're delt and that's what he did. While he made a monetary success of it, I'm still not convinced that it brought him true happiness or fullfillment.
