Charles is NOT king of the United Kingdom. England and Scotland were not melded into Great Britain until 1707. He was Charles I of both Kingdoms. He is the king who lost his head to the headsman. He was an absolutist and had constant conflict with Parliament. He lost the Civil War and then his head. He started the Royal Navy for all intents and purposes.
