You can advance through belts rapidly if you have even a knowledge of basic kicks - front kick, roundhouse, and side kick - because the initial belts have only a few simple defense techniquest that you need to learn and have no forms until you're a couple belts in - and they can be time consuming to learn, similar to learning a new dance. My initial observations is that Kung Fu combines punching and kicking almost equally, and does some work with knees (which is new to me). Also the moves seem to be quicker and more practical for lets say a street fight - not long and drawn out like many traditional Karate moves, making this a great form for people whose main motivation is to learn self defense.
