George II was the second of the miserable
Hanoverian Dynasty. He hated his father and the feeling was mutual. He hated his son, and grandson, the future
George III. He never learned any English but influenced culture in some respects.
Do you wonder why men never button the bottom button of their vest? Well George was so fat that he popped that button. All the courtiers then unbuttoned accordingly, and for some goofy reason that custom still prevails today.
The second that I can think of is when
Handel presented the
Messiah before the king. The king was so startled and overcome by the
Hallelujah Chorus, that he jumped to his feet. Of course everyone else did also, and that custom still prevails.
