Jimmy Carter 5

I think that anyone who has served our country deserves respect, whether he or she is a lowly government employee or the President of the United States. Furthermore, I have always thought that those in government should apply the same respect to their peers, as only they might be able to sympathize with others in the same position. Given that, the recent remarks by former President Jimmy Carter shows a complete lack of respect, especially by a man who ought to be above partisan bickering. Quotes like: "The overt reversal of America's basic values as expressed by previous administrations, including those of George H.W. Bush and Ronald Reagan and Richard Nixon and others, has been the most disturbing to me" are disturbing to itself because they are so partisan and so vile. What's wrong with just keeping it as "I disagree with the current administration..."? So former President Carter, since you feel so concerned about the overt reversal of America's basic values, why not also put fellow Democrat Bill Clinton (who seems to show a bit more class and respect for the office these days- and who keeps his criticism of other Presidents to himself, relative to you) in this list as well? Or is it just coincidence that the Presidents you named happen to be Republicans...hmmm? By the way, former President Carter, before saying "I think as far as the adverse impact on the nation around the world, this administration has been the worst in history," you ought to look at your own record in history as I wouldn't quite say your handling of the 1980 hostage crisis in Iran was the best, either. You might be a great former President for your attempts at securing world peace (by Nobel Peace Prize standards), but seriously look into the mirror before judging present and former occupiers of the office you once held yourself.
