Mediocre steakhouse with decent bar. Nothing special, but it wouldn't gag a maggot. I'm of the school that prefers "one of" restaurants rather than chains, but this will do in a pinch.

Note: "this will do" not "I seek this place out"

I went to outback steakhouse with my mom one day. I ordered the sirloin steak, medium rare. And let me tell ya, the best steak i have ever gotton in my whole life. I don't even think my mom can make a steak as good as this one and my mom is a great cook. I went to Texas Roadhouse and it was a pretty good steak but not as good as yours. Yours are delicous and I love it. I am 13 years old and I know good steak. Keep on making it tasty!

For one in Denver and another in Salem, OR. Good food, good service, tasty steaks. The only downside...there is almost always a wait to get seated.

A friend and I visited a Ms location of Outback for dinner. I frequently order the Rack of Lamb medium rare because dry tough meats can prove difficult to swallow. On this particular visit, the lamb, though cooked properly, was very tough and rubbery. I made it past the first rib but the next, no matter how much I chewed did not break down and became stuck in my esophagus. This has happened once or twice in the past briefly when eating dry or tough meats but passed quickly. This occasional difficulty in swallowing is why I always try to eat where the meat is choice and cooked properly, as it historically is at Outback. This time the meat remained lodged. I informed the manager of my predicament stating that I was not hitting him up for a free meal but I could not eat this one and was in distress over not being able to swallow. He did not seem too concerned about my wellbeing so I told him that the best I could do was take the rest home to my dog. He expressed even less concern and arranged for to-go boxes. When the check came and my rack of lamb remained, I gave the to-go boxes of my friend and myself to the manager and informed him that I had been mistaken. The meals were not fit for my dog. The saliva was backing up in my esophagus with no place to go but out and I was panicking so I left and went to the back of the restaurant to retch some more as I had three times in the Outback restroom and try to dislodge the stuck meat with no success. I went to the back so I would not have to perform the disgusting task in front of your patrons in the parking lot. When I gave up on expelling it, I got up and turned around and there was your manager behind me smoking a cigarette and smirking at me. He said I did not have to make a scene that he would not have charged me if I had asked. Sorry but had I been the manager I not only would I have not charged a patron who could not swallow because of the food he was served but I would not have let the patron out the door until I was assured that there was no medical problem. I would certainly have shown some concern that one if my patrons could not consume one of the most expensive meals on the menu or even finish his beer because he could not swallow. I went to the hospital around 10:30 PM that night and a specialist was called in to put me under to remove the obstruction. I had spent over five hours unable to swallow. They had to ventilate my lungs during the procedure, which did not do much for my Asthma either. I was released from the hospital the next morning at 11AM and spent the rest of the weekend recuperating on the couch from the soreness brought on by the procedure. It was something like how you feel for three days after pushing yourself too hard the first day of spring training or perhaps like a 17-hour ordeal brought on by a tough piece of lamb consumed in an establishment you trusted for quality. I just wanted all to know the kind of service and care this former Outback customer received at the Ms. location we visited.

If you want steak, go some place else. Ordered the Center Cut Filet at the Burlington, WA Outback for $19.95. Maybe a half inch, but unlike any filet I've ever had. Ordered it medium rare, came "very well done". Not even close.
I'll go to Black Angus for steak from now on.

For a small town like ours eating here is a luxury. The prices are a little steep but, its got great atmosphere, it's clean, and the staff have always been friendly. The food has always been good and the menu provided something that everyone in the family wanted.

I have been to many different outbacks in various states. About a year ago , I noticed smaller portions of the salad, oinon and drinks. the prime rib was horrible. I chnged locations, still smaller portions, but better meat. The last time I went, I saw a larger onion, but it was overly cooked. I couldn't find the salad dressing in the way too small salad and the steak tasted like cardboard and was not cooked like we asked. We order both the ribeye and the NY strip and both were horrible. They replaced my daughters and we took it home . The dog ended up eating it too. Small potatoes and you could cunt the bacon bits on one hand. That is it for me. Thy lowered the quality of meat and shrank the portions. My last two visits were in PA around bethleham and jamison. They even skmped on the butter. I noticed a year ago they raised the prices. I don't care as long as you get what you pay for. They have really gone downhill. No more for me.

Alright, to put all you doubters to rest here I go... Outback prides it self on its freshness, you name a chain (as big) that has the freshness outback does. A staff of 4 cooks getting up at 6 am to slow-cook prime rib and make all their homemade crutons, homemadedressings, mash potatos, and the other 80 percent of food from scratch? Red lobster, Apple Bees, Ruby tuesdays, Texas Road House, or even Fridays you say? Nice try, if you honestly like the stomach ache you achieve after youve tasted their (and this is no lie) "just add water" Mashpotatos, salad dressing, and frozen entrees, then go right ahead. Ive worked at all the restraunts Ive listed above, and can honestly tell you mulitple nights we have thrown foil ontop of a soup canaster and thrown it into our freezer for the next day (GROSS). Not outback, they throw away their un-used stock everynight. Outbacks food that does get put into the refrigerator for the evening has a 2 day or LESS shelf life, this includes steaks/fish/crab that are NEVER frozen, always vacum sealed (expensive to do this but necissary to ensure quality). For those of you complaining of "rare" steak temps, your server should have told you that OB's steak appear more rare than they actually are, because of the atmostphere/red lighting and they do cook a tad bit more rare to compliment the seasoning they put on the steaks, due to the lighting steaks appear more rare than actualy temps. If they didnt explain this contact a manager. As far as Service, its a HUGE franchise chain, give your local store a couple chances, speak to management and complain about your poor service/food if it is received, Outback as a whole is known for its great service/food, so give it a chance to improve if you have had a bad expericience. Hands down outback is the best not only steakhouse but main-stream restraunt of our time, look for them to control the market even more in coming years.

So I work here cause..... I do. While I support them while I'm there, I'm not biased like you may think I might be. It's basically just a quick and temporary way to make some cash so I can have the BEST SUMMER EVER after I graduate. That's another story, though. I'm reviewing because I've been impressed with the efforts this place goes to in order to provide a quality product. I've worked at 2 other restaurants and about 5 other places doing a variety of things (retail, childcare, healthcare, and stuff and stuff). And, honestly, I've never seen a place more interested in quality than I have here. I could go on and on with a variety of examples, but I'll try to keep it short. Outback isn't open for lunch because kitchen staff shows up around 8-9 to start preparing foods for the day (Yes, I suppose they could show up earlier so lunch could be served but Outback includes employees in part of the mix of the people they work to please.) Everything is homemade everyday, right down to the croutons on the salads. (Considering the place opens at 3-4, that's around 8 hours of prepwork before the doors even open.) Outback was a publicly owned entity until recently. It's private again. The story goes that the shareholders more interested in profits were pushing to create initiatives to increase those at the expense of the those the restaurants aims to serve (buying lesser quality products, opening for lunch, etc.) In order to protect values, the place was made private. ( I don't know business, but that's the story.) Last thing....the customer is always always right. I feel like I shouldn't spread the word. But the company loses a ton of money in cooking new food, providing free food, etc. etc. so that people can leave satisfied. And, yeah, every place does this to some extent but I was and still am a bit shocked by the degree to which Outback pours out money in order to gain it back...longterm?....because of customer satisfaction. Ummmmm...what else? The food isn't Australian, but cajun-inspired. It has an Australian theme. So what? I realize the same level of quality can't be found in every one you walk into, but they make an honest effort. (Apparently, the Cali ones were having quality control issues because of how franchised, but they're working on it.) I could talk more, but I'm getting tired of writing and you're probably getting tired of reading.

As an Australian, this restaurant sounds like a joke! Very tacky. I'd like to ask what the hell is a "blooming onion". I've lived in Australia all my life and have never, ever heard of a "blooming onion". Other things that strike me as inconsistant are the way menu options are listed, e.g. In Australian we actually use the word "prawn", instead of shrimp. The entrees sound rediculous; "kookaburra wings"? The service and ambiance sounds questionable at best. This seems to me like this is just your average steakhouse with a very unauthentic menu and atmosphere.

I dined at Outback for the first time last night with my girlfriend after a long day hoping we could get a decent meal and go home. After all I have heard nothing but good things about Outback even though it is a corporate chain. Personally I never expect much from a chain restaurant and that is certainly what I got. Complaint #1.) ATMOSPHERE IS AWFUL. There is no reason for it to be that dark and the only ceiling lights to be red. I felt like I was at a wh*rehouse while eating my steak. Also, it is obnoxiously loud and cramped. I couldn't even enjoy a conversation with my girlfriend without yelling. Complaint #2.) Food was awful. Someone needs to teach these Aussies how to cook a steak. We both ordered a Filet Mignon mine cooked rare hers a medium rare. I recieved a raw seared on both sides steak and hers was a perfect rare. Which was then argued by my waitress calling it medium rare. Squishy and cool red is rare, not medium rare. Another problem is they don't grill their steaks. A flame is not involved in this cooking process making a tougher outside and much less healthy steak.
Overall an awful meal with mediocre service and an atrocious atmosphere.

Just to let all of the people who are upset because Outback doesn't offer any vegan meals, you're wrong. You obviously don't know how to order your food. They have sauteed shrooms which are normally made with butter in them, but if you ask your server politely they can have the chefs use fresh button shrooms sauteed in olive oil with pepper or garlic or any other spice you desire. Also, any vegetable they have can be prepared without butter. They also have salads that can be prepared without cheese or croutons and you can use oil and vinegar dressing. So, if you would stop complaining and maybe start to use that brain power to think of creative meal options, you wouldn't have anything to complain about. Oh yeah, it's a STEAKHOUSE!

Great food and servise, and used to eat there about twice a month... but just got tired of the rediculous noise level. The only way you can have a conversation with your dinner companions is to yell over the din. Not very enjoyable. If not for that, I'd give the place 5 stars and I'd still be eating there.

I have eaten at Outback's since they started. In my opinion, they are getting worse. The steaks are nothing to get excited about and the other offerings are very inconsistent from one site to the next. I try not to be somewhere where this is my only or one of several other unacceptable offerings. And what's with not being open for lunch? Maybe too bad for lunch?

My Outback of choice is Wayne, NJ. All but one time they were consistant on quality of food and service. The time they were not, we complained and received a call from the proprieter himself and were able to resolve our issue. Unless you are there during the week when the doors open, expect this place to be packed with a wait for seating. That should tell you that everything about this place is worth waiting for. I find the staff is always friendly, prompt and even though you may have waited to be seated, once you are seated, the flow of delivery is timed perfectly. I'm picky as far as how things are cooked, etc. and they have never disappointed. Menu features appetizers such as "Blooming Onion", Kookabura Wings (Best chicken wings from a restaurant I have tried yet, and I don't really care for wings), Potato Skins, etc. Entrees - all different steaks from Strip to Prime Rib to filet. Most steaks are in your choice of 2 or 3 different sizes, grilled chicken, delicious ribs, pork chops, lamb chops, pasta dishes, etc. Add ons like Shrimp on the Barbie and mushrooms, lobster tail, etc. are available with your steaks. For a chain steakhouse, this is the best I have come across yet. Give it a try if you haven't already!

Outback Rules! The place I go to when I want a steak from a national dining chain restaurant. The wait time is the only thing that gets me. It's a sign of how good Outback is though. Thumbs up and Five Stars. Outback's Prime Minister Prime Rib is the best!*****UPDATE***** Outbakc drops a star. They opened one up near me and I've been there twice for Curbside Take away. Both times my Prime Rib has been lukewarm to cold and not done on time.

Outback is a turd. I went on my lunch break to meet a friend and we ordered an apetizer to share and a sandwich. 20 minutes later someone came out to tell us they had burned our appetizer. After 45 minutes of waiting for a sandwich, my lunch break was over and I had to ask to have my lunched boxed to go and was still late getting back to work. I believe that the staff was smokn some wacky tobaccy in the back as the restaurant was half empty and it still took that long. I would describe the Outback as poop on a stick.

Definately the best sit-in restaurant I've ever been to. Beats Applebees, Ruby Tuesdays, and Chili's hands down! I always get the No Rules burger with bacon, cheese, and BBQ sauce. Very delicious. The fries that come with the burger are very tasty, too. The portions are a tad large and I often have to bring it home to finish it! The service is pretty good for the most part, as the people can seat you quickly no matter the crowd. The only thing I don't like about the Outback is that the parking at my local restaurant is absolutely horrible, but that can be overlooked because of the awesome food! I've also tried the Curbside Takeaway and is a good alternative to eating in if you so desire.

I am more of a sea food and chicken person but I often like a steak. I found that when I went here 2 times my meat was raw even after I said medium to well done. It was medium rare. I was left to starve waiting for 15 or 20 min to get my steak back. I heard that someone kept sending there meat back too for rawness and someone saw the waitress throw the meat on the floor after it was cooked again. GROSS! Its all very greasy too. the meat flavor is not bad but you have to ask for well done to get medium and also the meat is kind of thick. Its always croweded and a 45 min wait or more and its not worth the wait!

Some of these ratings are quite funny. People actually gave Outback a bad rating because it didn't have any Vegan options, and the portions were too big. Its a steakhouse...it says it in the name...What do you expect. In my opinion Outback is the best of the sitdown casual dining chains. The quality of the food is superior to any Applebees, Bennigans, Chilis, or anything else. Granted...there may be long waits at many of the restaurants, but if you are in a rush, try some place else.

Outback is the greatest restaraunt ever. Let me tell you just a few of the things I know about Outback. They only use USDA Choice beef - meaning it is the BEST possible beef on the market, no exceptions. Yes they are not open for lunch, but that's because dozens and dozens of their foods are being home-made each and every morning. The Aussie chips and Bloomin' Onions are cut fresh every morning, not taken out of a freezer like Applebee's. The soups are homemade, chocolate, croutons, cinnamon pecans - you name it, it's home made starting from scratch. These people put more effort and quality into their foods than any other restaraunt i've ever been to. The chicken and fish are always fresh, never frozen like other restaraunts. For those who are complaining about the price, for the quality and freshness of the foods you are eating it is WELL worth it. Another thing - Outback has smaller section sizes than most restaraunts so that each and every customer will receive quality, attentive service. All I ask is that before you judge such a quality place such as Outback, you should at least know SOMETHING about what you're talking about. This is the best restaraunt I've ever been to, No Rules Just Right Mate! P.S. If you don't like the wait there is CALL AHEAD SEATING - meaning your name is near the top of the wait sheet when you arrive.. Come on people you can wait 15 mintues without starving to death can't you?

Like many things rated on here it is about what the individual is looking for. Outbacks are very consistant, offering very good steaks, chowders, etc. You will pay a decent price but it is always a very good meal. The downside is there is always a hlaf hour to hour wait.

My friend and I were really poor one day but we were starving. We had just gotten an Outback in our town, so we thought we'd give it a try. We had not heard anything about the prices beforehand. We go and sit down and start looking at the menu to realize that just about the only thing we could afford would be to split an appetizer. We each had about $6.00. We ordered a shrimp appetizer for $10.00, plus tax. We figured for $10.00, it must be decently sized. It ended up having only 6 pieces of shrimp! We each ate our 3 and left, still starving. I have been since then, after recieving some gift cards to eat there. Still wasn't that impressed, but hey, it was free this time.

Not bad. Not that good. But not bad. C+ UPDATE: I'm going to change my rating froma three to a five. A couple of weeks ago we had a small dinner party for my mother's 76th birthday at Outback's and along with my perfectly cooked (medium rare) Porterhouse Steak, I also had to eat my words. Everyone at the table enjoyed their dinners. My son in law and daughter both ordered Prime Rib and it was cooked to perfection. On the basis of that great meal I'm corecting my earlier review.

Reliable, and decent but nothing overwhelmingly wonderful. Another one of many similar steak houses. Absolutely the same, in many ways, as Lone Star, and also Bugaboo Creek. The Aussie thing is just theiur way of setting themselves apart. Waiting more than 15 minutes to get in here is just stupid and definitely not worth it - there's another place just like it a mile or two away, so why?

I've worked at Outback on and off for the past 6 years and their food quality is extrememly poor. Employees get 50% and I have never eaten there once after seeing how unclean everything is. If you knew what I know, you would never eat there again.

The Outbacks in OKC, Tulsa, Joplin are GREAT! On Northwest Expressway in OKC, the waitresses were really great looking, friendly and the food is great!

Great food, but nothing at all like real Australian food. Try finding a good burger in Australia. I challenge you. I couldn't remember one thing on Outback's menu that was actually served in Oz. Real Australian food is second to terrible. I'm not surprised it's a former English colony. Quick note too; 75% of Australians, even in the Outback, are not like Steve Irwin or Crocodile Dundee. To the guy that says upscale restaurants are more expensive than Outback, yeah you're right, but then again, people who eat in upscale restaurants don't usually patronize Outback! Genius. Different market. Great food anyway at Outback. Australia needs more of these restaurants, desperately. There are some in Oz, ironically, btw.
