I wish he had been more "polarizing." His problem was that he was a bit wimpy, like Biden or Lieberman.

Terry McAuliffe is indeed a polarizing figure in politics. But it also needs to be said that his job requires him to be. With that said, McAuliffe has veered the Democratic Party to the far left. Whatever happened to this so-called party of inclusion? Do they realize that moderates ought to have a place in the party as well- that men like Joe Lieberman, Zell Miller and Evan Bayh should have a say within their party? But they've now lost the last two Presidential elections by catering to the far left and ignoring the middle, and McAuliffe ought to be held acccountable as he encouraged this kind of idiocy.

UPDATE: Terry is the architect of the most prolific decline of a political party since the Whigs. Could he have done a poorer job of running it into the ground? Clinton's hand-picked guy to run the DNC and he has masterfully squandered away whatever political credibility it had after Clinton left office. Welcomed with open arms George Soros, Michael Moore, Babs Streisand and the rest of the glitterati, whose charming message turned into you're so stupid, you better listen to me about who to vote for. What does he do for his next trick, saw the Icequeen in half? Dems, look for a moderate governor for 2008, or else look for a registration form to join some other party, 'cause there'll be nothing left of this proud party which has taken courageous stances on many topics and has produced some of the most capable, historic politicians of the past 150 years. The left-wing fanatic can no longer serve as the typical democrat, as it is today. Liberals need a party to go to, but there should be people like Rudy Giuliani and Zell MIller among their rank-and-file. They've all jumped ship. Try to do the math. When all the moderates leave, what do you have left to run on? ORIGINAL COMMENT (8/11/04): His job responsibilities are such that if he wasn't a five on this scale, he should be fired. Why is not Ed Gillespie, his republican counterpart, so polarizing?

UPDATE: RESIGN!!!!!!!!!! McAuliffe is the biggest failure ever for the DNC, we lose more senate seats, more house seats, and two presidencies. I'm not trying to blame him solely but he has to take some responsibility As a democrat, I'm ashamed to have a pompus individual like this as head of the DNC. Bottom line, ever since he's been head of the DNC, Democrats have been losing elections especially in Congress; if Kerry loses, McAuliffe will go down as a failure (although I think he pretty much is one)

As head of the Democratic Party, it's Terry McAuliffe's job to be polarizing. Like a lawyer fighting for the defendant in a courtroom case, it's his job to present the parties case point by point against the Republicans. His job isn't to get along, it isn't even about honest debate. It's merely about scoring political points. On a side note, he was at my university about 2 weeks ago. The comments above pretty much confirm it. Nothing worthwhile to say, just the same old boring talking points. But that's his job...
