A slick but fairly obvious huckster, that manipulates his words and his benighted followers for personal gain. Polarizing to those who believe his crap, or to those who believe he wields influence, but to most folks he's a self-parody.

Not a politician. Doesn't belong on this list. He belongs on a far worse list. . .

For someone who claims he wants to end racism, he sure uses race as an excuse a lot.

I often wonder if Al Sharpton carries around a mustache comb?
GenghisTheHun 12/20/2005
He's about as polarizing as Bozo the Clown--in fact, he is Bozo.

At one time, yes, Sharpton polarized America by Race ( not hard to do) . He's gotten older and more mature and picks and chooses his battles, seeking to become more a voice of the everyday guy instead of a Pro black supporter.

A consummate hustler and a good entertainer. Knows how to dress well and how to use the system to his advantage. His guest appearances on O'Reilly provide a touch of comic relief from time to time. Polarizing - not that much.

General consensus: he would love to be important enough that the stupid and racist things he says would be polarizing. I agree.
CastleBee 10/22/2004
Oh, pahleez! He couldn't affect the outcome of an election for president of a boy band fan club, let alone anything half way serious.
abichara 10/19/2004
Polarizing, but not at all relevant. Tawana Brawley made him a political joke. What he does have going for him is his charmisma and entertainment value. Not someone to be taken too seriously, even among conservatives.

The race baiting snake oil trader found a home in the mainstream part of the democratic party- go figure. And the Dems wonder why Republicans own a majority of the state legislatures, state houses, the House of Reps, the Senate, the White House and they are holding on for dear life in the judiciary with unprecedented filibuster tactics. Liberalism is dead and Al Sharpton should be one of the faces on its gravestone.
