 | asskickingboots (17) 02/05/2006 | Detroit's 26th ranked rush defense stuffed him (13 yards, 1.2 avg). San Fransico's 23rd ranked rush defense stuffed him (20 yards, 1.5 avg). No real surprise that Washington (20 yards, 2.0 avg) and Carolina (29 yards, 2.6 avg) stuffed him too. He finally had a "breakout" game again against Atlanta's below average 20th ranked rush defense, running for 116 yards (notably, just a yard more than Atlanta averages giving up and mostly just because of one big play).
In fact, every team he's played well against is currently ranking in the bottom half of the league in rush defense (MIN 21st, GB 18th, BUF 31st), hardly a result of him. I'll give him time, but at the moment I think he's just as likely to become a bust as he will a star, or even stay a starter for that matter. As for right now, nobody should even call him average.
Anyone still want to rate this guy as a 5 already? I think not.
UPDATE: By the end of the year, I'm willing to say I'm at least partially impressed. He was a rookie on a team with offensive line problems and their starting QB out, making him the offensive workhorse and played part of the season injured... He still managed to get 1178 rushing yards even while splitting carries.
I cannot rate him higher than a 3 though for the simple fact that he had so many games where he was a no show. He only had 23 yards on 14 carries against New England. In his rematch with the Redskins he barely did any better getting 49 yards on 18 attempts.
As many rookies that stepped up and showed some great play this year, I wouldn't have even made him a candidate for Rookie of the Year... seriously. Still, I could see him turning into a force as he matures.
