Jim Lehrer 5

Lehrer is, without a doubt the only truly objective journalist left on television. Having written and produced at PBS, NBC and CNN and currently teaching Critical Thinking, I can say it will be a sad day when he joins McNeil in the newsroom in the sky. As for the wording of name of this category, it is hard to even process how to rate Lehrer without getting caught up in a cycle of double negatives. My high rating should never suggest that Lehrer is anything but objective and fair!

I havn't heard many people blaming Lehrer for Bush's pitifull performance during the first Kerry debate. Rolling his eyes, sighing, and smirking like a child were not Jim Lehrer's fault.
The News Hour is the most objective news one can watch.

Having served many years at PBS (do they lean left?) Jim had a reputation during debates during Clinton's presidency, for being our moderator. To have allowed him free reign to decide which questions to ask, therefore, which topics would be discussed, made it likely, maybe inevitable, that Kerry would win Debate #1. He asked appropriate questions of Bush, I thought, reaction to the 9/11 attack, going it alone in Iraq, lives lost to date, what was the decision to invade based on, is it a quagmire? Kerry's total pass on his twenty year Senate career was inexcusable, and convenient. How, in a foreign policy debate, could a question about his vote against the Gulf War be omitted? Zell Miller's diatribe about Kerry's no votes on every weapons and defense bill, travelling to France to meet with the Vietcong, travelling to Nicaragua to meet with communist dictator Daniel Noriega in 1988 just before his fall, what would he do differently than Bush in Iraq and would he have invaded Afghanistan (if not, what would he have done?) somehow never occurred to Lehrer in his preparation. Would not all you Kerry voters have loved to hear his answers to at least some of those questions? Instead, he was allowed/encouraged to chase Bush around the stage throwing mud at his decisions of the past three and a half years. The only time he would have to answer those questions was in the foreign policy debate, moderated by the left wing zealot, Jim Lehrer. He protected and enabled him well.
